 Are you
passionate about astronomical observation?
...have you ever had the opportunity to observe the
globular cluster Omega Centauri through one of the most famous amateur
telescopes in the world - the 6 inch ZEISS APQ refractor? If so, were you
perhaps able to also use a ZEISS wide-field binoviewer together with this
telescope?
At Rooisand Observatory you have the opportunity to do just
that, and to top it all, under a brilliant and totally dark night sky - near
the Gamsberg Pass at an altitude of more than 4.000 ft above sea
level. |
|
A 6
inch aperture does not seem altogether adequate to you? In this case we can
offer a Celestron C14 - a choice device with outstanding optical performance.
It will show you, for example, the nebulae around the star eta Carinae with
plenty of structure and all of it in colour, too!
Why is Rooisand
Observatory one "of a different kind"? The observatory at Rooisand
Desert Ranch is equipped with superb telescopes and accessories. Located at a
distance from the main ranch buildings it is sufficiently removed from the
regular tourist traffic. Thus it combines perfect conditions for undisturbed
individual observations with excellent accommodation.
|
Rooisand Desert Ranch is located in the natural scenery of a
geologically interesting region of Namibia. Therefore it offers - apart from
the observatory - a host of activities for you and your family.
While
dedicated observers indulge their astronomical passions, other members of the
family can enjoy the many other activities available at Rooisand Desert Ranch.
To name but a few:
- large outdoor swimming
pool ,
- tennis court, fitness
centre and sauna,
- guided tours, game
drives and birdwatching, guided hikes to ancient rock paintings,
- " sites where quartz,
amethyst and other minerals can be found,
- ... and much
more

telescopes plus accessories, so that even larger groups can be catered
for.
Amateurs, who just want to make visual observations, need to bring

Amateurs who want to work with CCD or photographic cameras should bring
their own camera and laptop.
