following destinations (click on the thumbnails for more pictures and

Windhoek : Namibia's capital is
the starting point for most visitors to the country. Situated on a plateau at
about 1700 m above sea level, Windhoek is an airy city with some 200 000
inhabitants. It is the seat of government, administrative centre and showpiece
of an aspiring, independent society. The city offers a surprising mix of old
and new, of respectable European ambience with an African flair. |

Namib Wüste : The Namib
is one of the most arid deserts on earth and part of Namib Naukluft National
Park, Namibia's largest National Park with a total area of 49 000 square
kilometres. Sossusvlei is a popular tourist destination. It is a huge
clay pan resembling an oasis amidst the world's highest dunes (up to 300m).
This is one of the most well-proportioned and most colourful dune landscapes in
Namibia! |

Walvis Bay und Swakopmund :
Swakopmund has retained more of its original German character than any
other town. Seafront promenades, the historic jetty, the lighthouse and many
other well-kept buildings from the German colonial era are symbols of a journey
through time. Due to the cold Benguela Current temperatures are pleasant
throughout the year. Both coastal towns are the Namibians' most popular summer
holiday resorts. |

|
Cape Cross : The largest seal
colony in the world is situated about 120 km north of Swakopmund. Cape Cross is
home to some 200 000 Cape fur seals (note that Windhoek has roughly the same
number of inhabitants). |

 |
Etosha-Nationalpark : This
national park with famous Etosha pan in its centre is probably the country's
premier tourist attraction. It is a paradise of nature with large numbers of
different animal species, e.g. lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, gnu, rhino,
springbok, ostrich and many others
Etosha is open throughout the
year.

PLEASE NOTE:
There is no
danger in renting a car for self-drive in Namibia, as long as you keep on the
left-hand side of the road and bear the following rules in mind:
- plan your
excursions in such a way that you do not have to drive at dusk and never after
dark, otherwise you are in acute danger of colliding with large
animals;
- drive at moderate
speeds on Namibia's gravel roads; if you do more than 80km/h, braking sharply
or swerving becomes very dangerous because the car will probably start
skidding.
